Officer Involved Shooting

The Salt Lake City Police Department is confirming an officer-involved shooting that occurred early this morning at 245 E. South Temple.

At 1:58 a.m., a complainant called Dispatch to report a man who was brandishing a gun and making threats. When officers arrived at the scene and made initial contact, the subject fled.

Officers located the man a short distance from the initial call for service. He failed to comply with officers’ commands and made furtive movements, which prompted them to discharge their weapons.

Investigators have recovered the subject’s gun.

Medical personnel transported Favian Martinez (03/03/90), a resident of Salt Lake County, to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Per policy:
· The Department has placed the officers involved on routine administrative leave.
· The Department will conduct an internal review of the officers’ actions.
· The District Attorney’s Office will conduct an investigation.
