Burbank Signs Utah Compact

Calling it a way for the city’s “silent majority” to weigh in on immigration reform, Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank today signed the Utah Compact.

“The five principles of the Compact are reflective of what I believe is the sentiment of a silent majority, certainly in Salt Lake City,” said Burbank, the Capital City’s 45th Chief of Police.

“Time and time again, when speaking to community groups, I am impressed with the number of people who agree that local law enforcement resources should not be used to enforce federal immigration law. Many ask how they can make a difference,” said Burbank. “The Utah Compact now provides an avenue for individuals to add their voice to the call for rational, reasonable discussion, hopefully in a manner lawmakers will recognize.”

Progress on BASE Jumper Case

A Detective assigned to the case will screen the information with the City Prosecutor’s Office to determine whether formal charges will be pursued. No timeline has been established for this process.

Unless and until the suspects are charged, their names will not be released. Possible charges include trespassing and disturbing the peace.
